BEND, Ore. (March 16, 2006) -- Pronghorn, the premier private golf community in the Pacific Northwest, is proud to announce that following a nationwide search, Jennifer Fisher has been appointed superintendent of the new Tom Fazio Championship Golf Course at Pronghorn scheduled to open to Pronghorn members in August 2006. Located on 640 acres outside Bend, Oregon, and surrounded by 20,000 acres of protected federal land, Pronghorn is the first community in the West to offer a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and Tom Fazio Championship Golf Course side-by-side. Fisher has been promoted from her post as Assistant Superintendent of Pronghorn’s Jack Nicklaus course, recognized by Golf Digest as the No. 2 Best New Private Course of 2004 and as one of Travel + Leisure Golf’s Top Ten Private Courses of 2004.
The highly anticipated Fazio course at Pronghorn will create a visual "wow factor", providing a pre-eminent golf experience to players at every level. Fazio’s 7,462-yard, par-72, 18-hole private course will also be home to one of the most unique holes in the world—a par three, eighth hole that includes a 45-foot canyon and exposed lava tube.
"Jennifer has been instrumental in the success of our award-winning Nicklaus course, there is no doubt that she will ensure that our Fazio course offers one of the most distinctive and unique golf experiences in the world," said Thomas Hix, managing partner for Pronghorn Investors, the developer of Pronghorn. "Her passion for golf coupled with her proven success in executing and maintaining exceptional course standards make her the perfect candidate for the job."
In her new post, Fisher joins an elite group of only 68 female golf superintendents in the country, according to the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GSCAA). She will report directly to Pronghorn’s nationally renowned golf superintendent, John Anderson, and will be responsible for managing and scheduling daily course maintenance activities including the fine tuning of construction, irrigation and planting. During Pronghorn’s peak season, Fisher will oversee a staff of approximately 30 course maintenance professionals.
Prior to her post as assistant superintendent of the Fazio course at Pronghorn, Fisher assisted with course construction and grow-in. Fisher also served as assistant superintendent at Pronghorn on the Nicklaus course. Prior to joining Pronghorn three years ago, Fisher advanced rapidly through a succession of turf professional positions, including a post as irrigation technician at Broken Top Golf Club also located in Bend, Oregon.
Fisher holds an associate’s degree in turf science from Central Oregon Community College and has studied landscape design and horticulture with an emphasis on plants native to the central and eastern regions of Oregon.
"I am honored to work in a community that celebrates its passion for natural landscapes and our native horticulture," said Fisher. "Pronghorn re-vegetates juniper tress, sagebrush and fescue - lending the Fazio course and the community an inherent natural beauty. The new course will also feature several of the most unique holes ever developed, and I am proud to help deliver the vision for this phenomenal course."
Fisher first moved to Eastern Oregon in 1989 and ten years later relocated to Central Oregon. She grew up with an instilled love for the outdoors, and when she isn’t working can be found hiking, skiing, fishing, landscaping and exploring her passion for photography.
