Turning Stone a three-time winner on Golfweek Top 10 in NY

All three of Turning Stone Resort and Casino’s championship golf courses are ranked among the Top Ten public-access courses in New York State by Golfweek magazine.

Golfweek’s 2006 edition of “America’s Best” places the Shenendoah Golf Club, designed by Rick Smith, second in New York State. The Atunyote Golf Club, created by Tom Fazio, is fourth and the Kaluhyat Golf Club, a Robert Trent Jones Jr. design, is sixth.

“This is a remarkable achievement,” said Director of Golf Bob O’Brian. “We pride ourselves on providing our guests with three quality golf courses, each with its own characteristics. The fact that Golfweek considers all three to be among the best in the state solidifies our position as the premier golf destination in the Northeast.”

Bethpage State Park on Long Island, with two courses on the list, is the only other venue in New York with a multiple listing.

To compile its annual list of distinction, Golfweek relies on 400 course raters who offer their opinions based on a series of criteria, including the natural setting, variety and memorability of holes, conditioning and the magazine’s famous “walk in the park” test.

Turning Stone has earned the attention of the finicky selection panel in the past. The 2006 ranking marks the fourth straight year that Shenendoah is placed among New York’s elite layouts. Atunyote was selected by Golfweek for its list of America’s Top 40 New Courses in 2005.

In June, Turning Stone will host the PGA Professional National Championship. Formerly known as the Club Professional Championship, the 2006 tournament will attract a record field of 312 professionals competing for $500,000 in prize money and the top 20 finishers will qualify for the PGA Championship, one of four majors on the PGA Tour. All four rounds at Turing Stone will be televised live by The Golf Channel.
