ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2006) – Each week, golfers trying to jump-start their professionals careers take to the links at Turtle Bay Resort in Oahu, each fighting nerves, mounting pressure in an effort to stave off elimination from The Big Break V: Hawaii. When the competition ends, however, The Golf Channel turns up the coverage with the second season of the most comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at reality television with The Big Break V: All Access.
The series airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET through the conclusion of The Big Break V: Hawaii, which airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET through May 9. All Access is a one-hour, expanded look inside the cable network’s hit reality show, featuring an up-close and personal look at the phenomenon that is The Big Break. Series highlights will include behind-the-scenes footage of various Big Break challenges, increased audio, including exclusive on-the-spot interviews, capturing contestants’ instant reactions to their performances, footage of the cast and crew preparing the course, as well as never-before-seen outtakes.
“All Access takes viewers behind the scenes so they can experience the Big Break just like they were there,” show producer James Ponti explained. “The shoot is exciting, exhausting and exhilarating, and we hope to show you the entire spectrum of emotion, from the funny behind-the-scenes moments to the emotional highpoints on the course.”
All Access will pick up where the previous evening’s Big Break V episode left off, filling in the rest of the story with a number of unique features, including the Aloha Suite, Marty’s Wilde Kingdom, Crew Call, Raw Access and Medic Mike. Marty Wilde Jr., a former contestant on The Big Break IV: USA vs. Europe, joins the Big Break V crew, hosting Marty’s Wilde Kingdom and the Aloha Suite, and even tries his hand at some of the different production jobs in Crew Call.
The Aloha Suite is the one room at Turtle Bay that each golfer will try to avoid, because if you’re in the Aloha Suite, it means your Big Break dreams have come to an end. After the Elimination Challenge narrows the Big Break field, the eliminated contestant makes her way to the Aloha Suite, where Wilde and the previously eliminated contestants await. The newest member of the elimination club shares her thoughts on the competition, and reaction to her elimination.
Marty’s Wilde Kingdom takes the golf professional from Datchworth, England off the course at Turtle Bay Resort, giving viewers a tour of the local color around Turtle Bay and the North Shore.
Crew Call puts Marty on the spot, as he attempts to work a different crew member’s job each week. Wilde will be a camera assistant for a day, operate the spider cam, and even try his hand at being an official scorer.
Raw Access is a multi-camera look at the turning point in the competition, such as a missed opportunity, a big shot to seal another contestant’s fate, or a lucky bounce that helps keep a player’s hopes alive.
Medic Mike puts Mike Dougherty, The Big Break’s on-staff physical therapist, in front of the camera, as he shares health and fitness tips with the viewers.
