Adventurous Golfers Looking to Climb New Heights at the
2004 U.X. Open®
Golf Tour Challenges Players with Rugged Mountain Terrain
FAIRFIELD, CT, JUNE 29, 2004 – Adventurous golfers across America will continue to reach new heights as the 6th annual U.X. Open® returns to ski mountains across America for a golfing experience like nothing else.
The U.X. Open is golf with Attitude … and Altitude! It leaves the manicured fairways, rigid dress codes, extensive rules and high costs at the country club. The U.X. Open offers golfers a whole new challenge … up, down, and across a 10-hole mountain course, with 10 simplified rules catering to the rocky terrain. Instead of putting, participants must pitch the ball onto a painted circle 20-30 feet in diameter; a four-club limit; less severe penalties for lost balls and unplayable lies; and no dress code … although hiking boots are strongly recommended. And you can forget about yardage markers and golf carts - laser rangefinder binoculars and ski lifts are preferred.
To register or get more information interested players should visit www.uxopen.com or call 203-255-2891. For an $85 entry fee, participants receive entry into the 10-hole qualifying tourney, an Official U.X. Open golf shirt, Nike Power Distance Super Far golf balls, a lift ticket, plus food and drink at a post-event awards party with live music. Prizes include: Bushnell Laser Rangefinders; Bolle Sunglasses; and Hot Shots Golf® Fore! for Playstation® 2.
The 2004 U.X. Open tour includes an Eastern Qualifying Tourney on: Aug. 7 at Bromley Mountain (Manchester Center, VT); and a Western Qualifying Tournament on Sept. 18 at Snowmass (Snowmass Village, CO.).
The 2004 U.X. Open Championship will be held on Sept. 19, at Snowmass featuring the top three players from each qualifying event, plus defending champion Ed Galvan. The Championship features a unique survivor-style shootout whereby one player is eliminated on each hole until a champion is left standing. Ties are broken with a closest-to-the-flag chip-off. The Snowmass course is highlighted by a 1,220 yard par 5 finishing hole.
The sports’ most adventurous round of golf, the U.X. Open has been covered by Esquire, Men’s Journal, USA Today, Time, Newsweek, Los Angeles Times, Good Morning America and hundreds of other domestic and international media outlets. Many have referred to it as “extreme golf” but it is actually an authentic and fun alternative to the traditional game.
“Golf has become a very cool sport among the younger generation, thanks to Hollywood, popular music/fashion influences…and Tiger Woods,
