Jennifer Mario: A day in the life of the golfing mom

I made a critical error in judgment yesterday.

I gave my 2-year-old some juice...in the wrong cup! The resulting meltdown woke up my grandmother, which is pretty weird since she died nine years ago. (Sorry, Grandma!) A rookie mistake, I know. Any self-respecting mom knows that when a tot requests a drink, mom is supposed to run through the available sippy cups like a sommelier presenting wine options. But I was in a rush and got lazy. Lesson learned.

Anyhoo...I realized the day was just going to go from bad to worse if I didn’t turn off Cartoon Network and get the kids out of the house. So in keeping with my New Year’s Resolution #3, off to the range we went.

My little ones are actually pretty good at swinging their clubs, as long as the clubs are connecting with balls and not one another’s heads. Our assistant pro ambled over and took a look. “Do you want to play golf with us?” my little one inquired.

The pro pulled out his club and demonstrated his swing. And here’s the best part: as he sent the ball flying 200 yards with his 7-iron, my little one exclaimed, “Wow, you hit the ball just like my mother!”

Not a bad day all-around.
