EGU to support London Golf Show

Oct. 22, 2004 – The English Golf Union (EGU) is the latest association to lend its support to next year’s London Golf Show 2005.

The EGU was founded in 1924 and has served as the governing body of male amateur golf in England ever since.

It is responsible for the training of England’s top amateur golfers as well as organising all the major English amateur championships. Subsequently, the EGU is the largest sports governing body in England, looking after the interests of over 1,900 golf clubs and 740,000 club members.

As part of its drive to increase interest and participation in golf the EGU will be overseeing two driving bays at the purpose-built, indoor driving range and will be offering advice on how to ‘Get into Golf’ and acquire an official handicap.

There will also be information on the EGU initiatives that are available for everyone, whether they are new to the game or more experienced players.

Andy Barwell, the marketing director for the show, said: "The EGU is keen to ensure golf is all-inclusive and that is also our ethos, so there’s a natural synergy there. The London Golf Show aims to attract all golfers: young and old, male and female, beginner or expert – there’s something for everyone.

"And with the support of the EGU, we aim to show that golf is for everyone as well. It’s no longer an elitist sport."

The London Golf Show is more than a show – it is a total golfing experience. It is a four-day retail exhibition aimed at all standards of golfer and showcases the best of more than 400 exhibitors, with products ranging from golf tees to golf resorts; from drivers to buggies.

Visitors will be able to try the latest in golf equipment, meet with the pros, get advice, find great deals on clubs and clothes and see a whole world of golfing destinations and holidays – all in the centre of London.

Among the visitor features are a floating green in the Victoria Docks for a hole-in-one competition, an indoor driving range and a nine-hole putting competition.

The London Golf Show takes place at the ExCel Centre, London, on April 21-24, 2005. Check out the website at: www.londongolfshow.com.
