PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- More than $24,000 was raised from online auctions of hole flags signed by 2005 Masters and British Open Champion Tiger Woods, 2005 PGA Champion Phil Mickelson, 2005 U.S. Open Champion Michael Campbell and major Champion Vijay Singh. The signed hole flags from their respective Championships were auctioned off during the PGA.com Golf Auctions for Katrina Relief on eBay, which raised the money for the U.S. Golf Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.
"We are grateful to the players and allied associations that helped us leverage the game of golf to raise money for a cause which affected our industry very personally," said Roger Warren, president of The PGA of America.
The PGA.com Golf Auctions for Katrina Relief is among the initiatives of The PGA of America to support the U.S. Golf Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. The auctions, which were staged in conjunction with the 2005 PGA Grand Slam of Golf, were created and managed by the PGA Trade-In Network and the PGA.com Value Guide. PGA.com also ran an auction in September in conjunction with the PGA Fall Expo. Altogether, the PGA.com Golf Auction for Katrina Relief raised more than $27,000 in 2005.
