CAMDEN, S.C. -- Danny Allen, superintendent at Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C., is the new president of the 1,800-member Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association.
Allen was elected at the Carolinas GCSA's annual Conference and Trade Show in Myrtle Beach, SC.
He is the brother of Randy Allen, CGCS, with Burroughs and Chapin, who was Carolinas GCSA president in 1989. The Allens are the first brothers to serve as presidents of the chapter.
Allen is taking over as president of the association as it engages in an effort to strengthen the 12 local associations across the Carolinas. The campaign includes specialized leadership training for local association officers, and two pilot programs to boost grass roots public relations and administrative capacity. The Carolinas GCSA will also increase financial support for local association activities.
“We have enjoyed considerable success as a regional organization,” Allen said. “Now we want to transfer that success as far into the field as we can. We want to make a difference for each of our members and we feel the local associations are in a great position to help make that happen.”
Billy Lewis, from Carolina National Golf Club in Supply, N.C., is the new vice-president of the Carolinas GCSA, and Steve Neuliep, CGCS, from the Country Club of Asheville in Asheville, N.C., is secretary-treasurer. Mike Brown, CGCS, from Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., will remain on the board of directors for one more year as immediate past president.
Steve Hamilton, CGCS, from The Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach is the only newcomer to the 13-man board, filling the vacancy left by Bob Warner, CGCS, of Whispering Pines Golf Club, also in Myrtle Beach. Warner steps down from the board after serving in each office including the past year as past president.
