Hinrichs Flanagan sponsors Habitat for Humanity's golf tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Hinrichs Flanagan Financial (www.hinrichsflanagan.com ) a MassMutual general agency in Charlotte sponsored a charity golf tournament for Habitat for Humanity, raising enough money to build two houses, one in Charlotte and one in El Salvador.

Associates of Hinrichs Flanagan Financial have been building Habitat homes on a volunteer basis in Charlotte since 1988 and have built 14 houses. They have been a Platinum sponsor of the Habitat Golf Benefit for the last two years.

“Habitat for Humanity is my favorite nonprofit organization because it gives a ‘hand up’ not a handout,” says Ivan Hinrichs, a Platinum sponsor, event committee co-chair with Charles Jonas, and past President of the Charlotte Chapter of Habitat for Humanity board of directors. “Our goal was simply this: to have fun while raising funds for two homes for worthy working families. As these families repay their interest-free loan the money is recycled to build additional homes. In this way our gifts today keep on giving for years to come.”

This year’s tournament was played in 18 holes at The Club at Longview, a Nicklaus Signature Course recently ranked the best golf course in Charlotte by Golf Digest magazine. It was held in a shamble format that matches each competitor’s playing level. The reward for a hole-in-one was a Maserati from Foreign Cars Italia. A “sponsors only” putting clinic was offered by the Longview golf pro, and the putting contest winner received Maui Jim sunglasses as well as other prizes and a chance at $10,000. Every competitor received Pro VI golf balls and a Bobby Jones golf shirt.

Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte works with people from all walks of life to build decent, affordable housing for those in need. Applicants commit to a lengthy process that requires them to log 250 “sweat equity” hours by working on site before they can close on their own home. All homeowners sign a zero-interest mortgage and are required to make payments in full and on time. Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte has built homes for over 640 families in this community.
