Wolf Pack community foundation's season off to flying start

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Hartford Wolf Pack Community Foundation's first two major events of the 2005-06 season netted a total of $43,000 for their two beneficiary organizations, the team announced.

Additionally, a community project to which the Foundation made a significant donation celebrated its completion on Tuesday, November 1st.

The Wolf Pack Community Foundation's sixth annual "Golf for Kids" Tournament brought all of the Wolf Pack players and coaches to the Golf Club of Avon October 11th. This event raised $13,000 for The Children's Home of Cromwell. Then, the following Sunday, October 16th, the Wolf Pack players participated in a Bowl-a-Thon to benefit CT Special Olympics, Connecticut Eastern Region. AMF Silver Lanes of East Hartford donated the entire alley for the event and all 52 lanes were filled with Wolf Pack players and Special Olympians pairing off. A total of $30,000 was raised through that effort.

This past summer, the Wolf Pack Community Foundation provided seed money to help start the fund raising drive for a new outdoor recreational facility at DiLoreto Magnet School, a public elementary school in New Britain, CT. This facility will serve the entire northwest section of New Britain, and is a much-needed addition to this diverse community. The school, located at 732 Slater Rd. in New Britain (860-223-2885), will celebrate the finishing of the outdoor recreational facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this Tuesday, November 1st at 9:15 AM. Manager of Community Relations Mary Lynn Gorman will represent the Wolf Pack, and New Britain Mayor Timothy Stewart and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Doris Kurtz are also scheduled to be among the dignitaries on hand.

The Hartford Wolf Pack Community Foundation's Mission Statement is the following: to help fund charitable and non-profit endeavors that offer support to inner-city youth, amateur sport and promote the health, education and well being of Connecticut's children.
