Chris Baldwin: Las Vegas' Cascata gets more welcoming

Cascata, one of Las Vegas' $500 per round courses that Michael Jordan, George Clooney and Co. like to play, is easing off on its access rules. But not its price tag.

Cascata used to tout itself as a course only open to Caesars guests (and whatever big-name celebrity or gambler it comped). With the merging of Harrah's with Caesars that changed to a host of Sin City properties. Recently, Cascata started allowing packagers like Las Vegas Golf Travel to sell it. Now, its website also lets golfers know there's "limited availability" for other guests. Even of nonaffiliated hotels.

Limited, as in, if you call.

Think Cascata's realizing that a $350 weekday and $500 weekend greens fees with a mandatory caddie ("suggested" tip $50 per person) tacked on is exclusive enough? There's nothing more annoying than a course that charges ridiculous fees and then adds conditions to it.

With that said, Cascata is a wonder.

"It's not a place where we're going to sell a lot of rounds obviously,'' said Scott Bowles of Las Vegas Golf Travel. "But for once in a lifetime splurge, you'll see some golfers heading out there for the experience."
