National Collegiate Golf Championship set for Las Vegas

IRVINE, Calif. -- Collegiate Golf Alliance (CGA), the premier online registration and management tool, announced that 60 Colleges and Universities have qualified three teams each for the National Collegiate Golf Championship through their NCGC local qualifiers.

The California-based company is teaming with the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) to manage the 2005 National Collegiate Golf Championship endorsed program. A 2 person scramble event for collegiate and university amateurs, the NCGC will allow golfers to compete for their university to see who will be the 2005 National Champion.

The Championship has three divisions: Student, Faculty/Staff and Alumni/Community. For a listing of all Local Qualifiers, dates, courses and summaries go to http://www.cgagolflinks.com/ncgc.asp

This amateur golf event is focused on university recreational golfers and consisted of 35 local qualifying tournaments held through seven regions across the United States in the fall. Local qualifying winners advance to the official CGA National Championship Tournament in Las Vegas November 11-13, 2005. The CGA and NIRSA have promoted and marketed the event to over 700 colleges and universities, which both entities believe has the potential to become the authoritative source on recreational golf for the college environment. Portions of proceeds of the Local Qualifiers and the Nationals will benefit the NIRSA Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides opportunities for students through professional development, research, scholarships, and educational resources. The NCGC provides sponsorship, prizes and organizational support to Local Qualifiers and manage the National Tournament.

“The NCGC brings together students, faculty and alumni to compete for their university and against other colleges and universities. Teaming with the NIRSA gives us a chance to take our campus golf programming to the next level,” stated CGA’s President and CEO Mike Munson.

Sponsors of the event include Southwest Airlines, Warrior Custom Golf, Cutter & Buck, American Hole in One, Red Bull, Sports Illustrated On Campus, Advantage Fitness Products, Almost Golf and American Golf. To provide additional resources, CGA has appointed six regional managers to assist in the programming of campus golf events as well as help coordinate the National Tournament.

Tyson and Guraraldo are already looking forward to defend their championship for the Nitnay Lions. “The tournament was well-run and well-organized.” Tyson said while holding back a smile. “Everything went smooth and I couldn't have had a better time…I can't wait for next year!”.
