USA -- Time is running out to apply to GCSAA's 2006 Research Grant Program, which funds applied agronomic, environmental and regulatory research that will benefit golf course superintendents and golf courses.
The deadline to apply is Nov. 18.
The program encourages superintendents and turfgrass scientists to work together to identify research needs and to jointly develop the research proposal.
The Environmental Institute for Golf provides funding for research projects in three separate programs. These programs are the National Research Program, the Chapter Cooperative Research Program and the Mark Kizziar Research Grant. Since 1995, 55 projects have been completed.
The National Research Program funds research to advance the goals of The Institute. This year's focus is on producing an Integrated Pest Management template that will assist superintendents in developing written IPM plans for the golf courses they manage.
The goal of the Chapter Cooperative Research Program is to partner with GCSAA affiliated chapters by providing matching funds for applied research on golf course turf and/or soil problems that have been identified by the chapter as a significant local issue.
A letter from an officer of the chapter who is also a superintendent is required for these proposals. The letter should address the importance of the research to chapter members and if the chapter is funding the research, the letter should clearly state the commitment of the chapter to fund the project.
The Mark Kizziar Research Grant funds applied research on turfgrass water use, irrigation scheduling techniques, irrigation water quality, or the use of effluent that will help produce well conditioned golf courses while minimizing consumption of water. A letter from an officer of a GCSAA affiliated chapter who is a superintendent is required. The letter should also address the importance of the research to chapter members.
The deadline for 2006 proposals is Nov. 18, 2005 . Please visit http://www.eifg.org/focus/research/callproposals.asp for details about submitting a proposal.
