Dragon at Gold Mountain course honored

CLIO, Calif. -- The Dragon at Gold Mountain, the breath-taking, fire-breathing Robin Nelson layout in the High Sierra Mountains of Northern California, has been named to the ZAGAT Survey listing of “America’s Top Golf Courses” for 2006/07.

In addition to being named to this prestigious listing, Dragon at Gold Mountain was named among ZAGAT Survey’s “Top Courses in State” along with Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Torrey Pines, CordeValle and Pasatiempo.

Furthermore, Dragon at Gold Mountain was also honored by the ZAGAT Survey as “best of” in these categories:
Women Friendly (LPGA Hall-of-Famer Patty Sheehan consulted)
Toughest
Scenic
Pro Shops
Private Functions
Opening Holes
19th Holes
Environmentally Friendly
Exceptional Clubhouses (Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright)

Among the most thorough rating guides in all of golf, ZAGAT covers more than 1,000 of the best courses in the United States. Courses in the guide are rated based on the responses of nearly 6,000 reviewers who play more than 552,000 rounds annually. Strength of layout, value, overall quality, facility and service standards are taken into consideration.

“Dragon at Gold Mountain emphasizes all the areas ZAGAT Survey cited for distinction, so we’re gratified that such an objective third-party endorsement supports our efforts,” says Dragon at Gold Mountain Owner Peggy Garner.

Being named to the ZAGAT Survey is the latest in a long line of distinctions garnered by Dragon at Gold Mountain, which is five years old. The property has been lauded in The Golf Channel, Architecture Digest, Golfweek, NY Times, Sierra Heritage, LINKS and Golf Magazine among many other publiciations.

Convenient to Reno-Tahoe airport, Gold Mountain is nestled on nearly 2,000 acres of mountains and forest overlooking the wild and scenic Feather River.

The entire resort and residential community reflects legendary Wright’s renowned “organic” architecture principals – designing structures that blend seamlessly and naturally into their surrounding environs. For instance, each of the Villas is richly appointed with stone, wood and natural materials, as well as captivating touches of art, color and light. The Villas of Gold Mountain can be fractionally owned or rented and include three model styles – Mountain, Tower and Butterfly. Those interested can book golf, lodging and tours of the Villas at Gold Mountain by calling 800.446.5368 or visiting www.nakomaresort.com.

Each Villa was designed by Taliesin Architects, Inc., the extension of Wright’s architectural practice begun in 1898, and offers luxurious bedding, nightly turn-down service, in-room spa service, gourmet meals delivered, rose petal baths, large Jacuzzi bathtubs, walk-in showers, televisions, DVD, CD, security safe, FAX, computer terminal and other amenities.

They are located within walking distance of Nakoma, Wright's 24,000-square-foot original design masterpiece, and the nationally acclaimed Dragon Golf Course. Nakoma was designed in 1924 but never built until the owners of Gold Mountain collaborated with Taliesin Architects, Inc. to bring it authentically and majestically to life. Nakoma is a tribute to Native American Indians and means “I do as I promise” in Chippewa. It perches magnificently on the hillside that overlooks Gold Mountain and features five teepee-like spires, the central spire soaring some 65 feet high.

Gold Mountain is a master-planned community carefully crafted to blend natural beauty and comfort and offers wooded homesites with panoramic views of the Sierra Nevadas, the Mohawk Valley, meadows, river and pristine recreational space. Featuring a gated community with homesites assured of unobstructed views, Gold Mountain has been expertly planned by the world-famous Taliesin Architects, the continuation of legendary Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural practice established in 1898.
