Strong entries for Ramadan Golf Challenge

DUBAI – Oct. 15, 2004 – The inaugural Desert Course Ramadan Golf Challenge to be held at The Desert Course on Saturday, October 30, has received a good response.

The 18-hole medal tournament with a 1pm (local time) shotgun start will be played from the 7,092-yard, par 72 gold tee course and will be styled as the Desert Course Khaleej Times Ramadan Golf Challenge.

This event is open to all men amateur golfers holding a valid handicap; the tournament has a handicap limit of 18. Elliott Gray, head golf professional, said: “We have an excellent field being put together for the 30th; the entries are constantly coming in.

“Players such as Charlie Grant, Keith Evans, Peter Troesch and Chris Picken are going to content for the divisional prizes and honors,” he said. “Charlie has been playing here frequently and will be one of the favorites; he has played links golf for years and has a real repertoire of shots if the wind is to be a factor on the 30th.

“Our greens are the finest in the UAE they are very true and will be running at around 9 ft on the stipmeter for this event. Following consultation with the UGA the event will be deemed a non-qualifier; therefore handicaps can only be reduced but will not be increased against the Standard Scratch Score of the course, therefore players can give the course a real challenge,” Gray added.

Entries are being accepted at the Desert Course (04-8846777, fax 04 8845451) on or before Saturday, October 23.
