Polo Golf announces nearly $1,000,000 in course renovations

CUMMING, Ga. -- Polo Golf & Country Club, a private country Club owned and operated by Heritage Golf Group, has begun a new golf course upgrade project. The million-dollar scope of work encompasses a renovation of all 18 greens as well as greenside bunkers, new mounding, cart paths and extensive drainage improvements.

The Polo Golf & Country Club greens will meet all USGA specifications and will feature a combination of A1 and A4 bent grass, a hybrid turf grass used on many premier golf courses to create a superior putting surface. The construction will begin with the front nine while the back nine will remain open for play. Upon completion of the front nine, the back nine will close for re-construction. During this time, Heritage Golf Group’s other properties in the Atlanta area, White Columns Country Club and Atlanta National Golf Club, will be open to Polo members for golfing privileges. The renovations are scheduled for completion by July 1, 2006.

" Our intent with this project is to have the best new turf available for our putting surfaces and to return them to their original size and design” says Claude Thorn, General Manager of Polo. "These improvements will be a welcome transformation for the many long term Members of the Club, as well as an added benefit to our newer Members and those joining in the future."

Renowned golf course architect Carter Morrish serves as a consultant on the project. Morrish, who frequently collaborates with Tom Weiskopt, has designed numerous courses, including Harbor Club on Lake Oconee, GA and Bloody Point on Daufuskie Island, SC.

Polo Golf & Country Club, designed by award-winning architect Joe Lee, features a 6,763-yard par-72 layout that gradually increases in challenge and splendor as it builds to a crescendo over the final five holes. Polo Golf & Country Club was created in a traditional, classical style that is enjoyed by all levels of players.
