Kentucky wins Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate

TAMPA, Fla. – Oct. 14, 2004 – Kentucky surged from third place after the first round to win the tournament by five strokes over Georgia State at the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate at the Old Memorial Golf Course.

The first round team leader, UCF, finished in fourth place. Mark Blakefield of Kentucky completed the double win for the Wildcats as he earned individual medalist honors. He finished with a three-under par score of 213 after carding a three-under par 69 in round two.

The tournament was finished as the teams completed the rain-delayed second round from Monday and played the entire third round Tuesday.

Florida State freshman Jonas Blixt carded back-to-back rounds of 71 and finished in a tie for 25th place in the individual standings. Blixt finished as the Seminoles' top individual finisher for the second time in three fall events and helped Florida State to a 13th place finish in the team standings.

Blixt (Nassjo, Sweden) led the Seminoles with his near career-low rounds of 71 in the second and third rounds of the event. After an opening round 81, Blixt cut his score by 10 strokes in the final two rounds to finish with a 223 score for the 54-hole event. His scores of 71 marked the third and fourth times this season he has carded scores of even-par or better.

Senior Matt Adcock (Apopka, Fla.) finished in a tie for 48th place in the individual standings after playing the first two rounds of the event at five-over par. The senior captain has finished as the Seminoles' first of second leading golfer in the last two events. He finished second among the Seminoles' starting five in this event.

Sophomore Bradley Ruch (Louisville, Ky.) played his best golf of the tournament in the second and third rounds with final 36-hole total of 151. He finished in a tie for 56th place. Freshman Song Jeon (Seoul, Korea) played well over the final two rounds and shot a 75 in the third round. Playing in his first career event, Jeon finished in a tie for 62nd place with a 232 total. Senior Rusty Mosley (Vidalia, Ga.) shot a 75 in the third round and cut eight strokes from his first round score to finish with a 234 total.

Florida State closes its fall season at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla., Oct. 25-26.
