Golf tourney raises $215,000 for Flames Foundation

CANADA -- Former NHL defenceman “Cowboy” Craig Levie led his team to the Gross championship at the Calgary Flames Celebrity Charity Golf Classic held Friday at Heritage Pointe. Levie’s winning group was among 300 golfers who participated in the 25th annual tournament raising a record $215,000 for the Flames Foundation.

Since its inception 25 years ago, the tournament has raised upwards to $2.5 million for local charities. Through generous support, recipients of the Classic’s philanthropic objective have included the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Children’s Link, Prostate Cancer Institute, Special Olympics, Calgary Minor Hockey Association and the Alberta Children’s Hospital, to name just a few.

For the 2005 Classic, the Flames are pleased to build on this rich tradition by launching a Signature Project that will be at the heart of all Flames fundraising efforts. The Flames Foundation is excited to unveil a bold new children’s medical initiative. Complete details of the Flames Foundation Signature Project are planned for this winter.
