DESTREHAN, La. -- Frank Gumpert, the director of golf at The Country Club of Louisiana, was recently elected to the post of District 3 Director and will represent the Gulf States (Louisiana and Mississippi), Dixie and Tennessee Sections on the Board of Directors of the PGA of America.
Gumpert, a past president and a member of the Gulf States PGA Hall of Fame, will begin a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the PGA in November 2006, according to a news release from the Gulf States PGA. Gumpert will succeed Brent Krause, who currently represents the Dixie Section (which serves Alabama and the Florida panhandle).
"This is something I always wanted to do,'' said Gumpert, a New Orleans native who will begin attending PGA of America quarterly meetings immediately to become acclimated with his duties. "This is like serving on the board of directors of a large national corporation.''
Gumpert, 58, served this spring as the general chairman of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans--the PGA Tour's annual stop in the Crescent City.
The PGA of America Board of Directors is made up of four officers, 14 district directors, two independent directors and a PGA Tour director. The board makes all decisions for the PGA, which is comprised of more than 25,000 golf professionals in the United States.
Gumpert becomes the fourth member of the Gulf States PGA elected to the prestigious post. James Ray Carpenter, Ken Lindsay and Bill Caldwell Jr., held the position previously. In addition to sitting on the board, Gumpert's duties will call for him to officiate at the PGA Championship, the Ryder Cup and the national Club Professional Championship.
