DENVER, Colo. -- Dozens of foursomes will descend on Glenmoor Country Club in Denver on Monday, September 12, to compete in the first Denver area "Tee It Up with AT&T" National Charity Golf Tournament, part of AT&T's overall fundraising effort for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life program. This is the first year for the tournament, which is also being held in 20 other cities across the U.S. and Canada. AT&T's overall goal is to raise $1 million through the national tournament and corporate team participation in Relay for Life events across the country.
"We're so happy AT&T has reached out to Denver, an area with a long philanthropic history, and one that can play a key role in our fight against cancer," said Janeen Bonacci, Denver area American Cancer Society.
This will mark the sixth consecutive year of AT&T participation in the Relay for Life. In 2004, AT&T was the largest corporate sponsor of the Relay, raising more money than any other company.
In addition, NBA Hall of Famer, Rick Barry is donating his time to take part in the tournament. "I'm excited to be a part of AT&T's worthwhile mission to help raise money for the American Cancer Society," said Barry. "Unfortunately, many of us have been touched by this horrible disease. Events like this one bring us one step closer to more effective treatments and ultimately, a cure."
Sponsors already signed up for the tournament through national Tour Level packages, and local Denver area Event Level sponsors are invited to compete. In addition, individual players are also welcome and will be assigned to foursomes. For more information or to register call 303-298-6183 or visit the AT&T website: http://teamacs.acsevents.org/att .
"Over the years, our employees have enthusiastically supported the Relay for Life raising funds, volunteering their time and soliciting their friends and neighbors to participate in the traditional relays at local parks, high schools and tracks," said Terri Tochihara-Dirks, AT&T sales center vice president in Denver. "This year, we thought we could contribute even more by organizing and hosting a series of charitable golf events like the one at Glenmoor Country Club. This will give our customers the opportunity to play at Glenmoor and add to both the fun and the funds of American Cancer Society."
In addition to Glenmoor Country Club, some of the other courses hosting "Tee It Up with AT&T" are the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.; Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco; The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort in south Florida; the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va.; the Tournament Players Club of Michigan, and Old York Road Country Club in the Philadelphia area.
