AUSTRALIA -- After its inception 20 years ago, The National Golf Club has grown to become one of Australia’s leading private golf clubs. The recently published book, “1001 Golf Holes, You Must Play Before You Die”, is testimony to that fact.
Published in Australia by Cameron House, this is the book that golfers from around the world are talking about. From an Australian perspective, Victoria emerged as the golf capital of the Nation, with 13 Victorian Courses featured.
As the title suggests the book rates and describes the best golf holes on the best golf courses from around the world. It is a true smorgasbord for all golf enthusiasts’, and a sure concept to ignite civilized debate at the 19th – especially if you happen to be lucky enough to be a member at The National Golf Club. All 3 of The National Golf Club’s Championship courses made the cut; therefore all 3 are being officially recognized amongst the world’s best golf courses.
The National Golf Club’s Moonah Course took out the line honors with 6 holes being voted amongst the best in the world.
The 4th, a Par 4 on the Moonah, is described as Australia’s best and most difficult modern Par 4.
The Moonah Course – designed by Greg Norman and opened in 2000, was voted for the following Holes: 2, 3, 4, 5, 11 & 15
The Ocean Course – designed by Thomson, Wolveridge & Perrett and also opened in 2000, was selected for its 11th, Par 3.
The Old Course – designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in 1988, was recognized for The National’s Signature Hole, the Par 3 seventh.
Members of The National Golf Club are not only privileged to play on these wonderful golf courses, but they also like to lay claim to enjoying world class views – with the Clubhouse overlooking the rolling surf of Bass Strait.
As a pioneer of Equity Based Membership, joining The National Golf Club is still possible, and may work out a lot cheaper than joining many other private clubs’. There is no sign-up fee, which is lost when you decide to leave the club; instead you purchase a share in a public unlisted company that owns the land, business and buildings.
