Golf Channel to air Junior PGA Championship highlights

WESTFIELD CENTER, Ohio -- The 2005 Westfield Junior PGA Championship highlight show will air on The Golf Channel Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at 4 p.m. EDT.

The show will highlight the final-round shoot-out between Joe Monte, of Chantilly, Va., and Alex Volpenhein, of Edgewood, Ky., as well as the victory by Stephanie Kono, of Honolulu.
Kono managed to hold on to her lead and secured her girls' division victory, with a birdie on hole No. 17. She finished the final round with a 1-over-par 72, for a Championship total of 3-under-par 281.

Kristina Wong, of Vestal, N.Y., finished in second place, after making a valiant effort to try to take the lead from Kono. Grace Woo, of Burbank, Calif.; Catherina Wang, of Orlando, Fla.; and Michelle Grilli, of Lutherville, Md., all finished in a tie for third place at 1-over-par 285.

The emotional boys' final came down to two bogey mistakes by Monte, who had taken the lead from Volpenhein on hole No. 11 with a birdie, after tying his competitor on hole No. 10 with an eagle. Monte, who shot one stoke better in the final round than winner Volpenhein, finished the Championship with a 4-under-par 67, for a 72-hole total of 11-under-par 273. Volpenhein finished his Championship winning round at 3-under-par 68, with a birdie on No. 17 and a par on hole No. 18.

Judson Eustaquio, of Lake Worth, Fla., was in the hunt for the Championship after his final-round of 5-under-par 66, but ended in sole possession of third place with his four-day total of 8-under-par 276.

In addition to all the action on the golf course, the Westfield Junior PGA Championship highlight show will also include vignettes on the festivities of the Smucker's Golf Fest and the Skill Challenge with Stephanie Sparks from The Golf Channel.

The Westfield Junior PGA Championship is The PGA of America's national Championship for boys and girls age 17 and younger. The 111 contestants for the 2005 Westfield Junior PGA Championship consisted of the junior boys' and girls' division champions from each of The PGA of America's 41 sections, as well as special invitees.
