Amritinder leads team to pro-am win at ONGC Open

NEW DELHI – Oct. 12, 2004 – Amritinder Singh led his team of Aashna Monga, Ashok Sharma and Ravinder Gupta to a win at the pro-am of the ONGC Noida Open even as Mukesh Kumar warmed up in style for the main event with a well-compiled four-under 68 to record the best individual professional score at the par-72 Noida Golf Course, near new Delhi. The winning team tallied 124 stableford points.

Tour money list leader Ashok Kumar and his team of Hardeep Singh, Ranjan Bhattacharya and Assad Kazmi finished second at 122 points. Team Feroz Ali, Jasjeet Singh,Sanjeev Mall and Dimple Singh finished second runner up with 115 points.

The pro-am was played on a stableford format where the professional’s score, which was compulsory, totalled with the two best amateur scores over 18 holes comprised the team score.

Amritinder SIngh (36 points) as the professional in the winning team pocketed Rs 4000 for his effort while Ashok and Feroz who each tallied 37 points pocketed Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively. Mukesh Kumar who returned 41 points for the best individual pro score was richer by Rs 2000 while Shiv Kapur with 38 points (2-under 70) took home Rs 1000.

A number of other interesting contests were held over and above the main competition. Col SK Bhattacharya won the ‘Monster Putt’ contest on hole 18 when his ball came to rest three inches from the pin. The longest drive award was won by Sanjay Sharma who’s effort off the tee came to rest 310 yards from the tee box. In the ‘Closest-to-the-pin-contest’ on hole five Paramjitr Singh bagged top honours with a statistic of two feet four inches.

The pro-am fielded some of the top-ranked professionals on the Amby Valley PGAI Tour including winner of the past three events on the Amby Valley PGAI Tour 2004-05 season Ashok Kumar, three time Order of Merit winner Mukesh Kumar, Asian Games gold medallist Shiv Kapur, former OOM winner Vijay Kumar and a host of Asian PGA Tour regulars like Gaurav Ghei, US Mundy, Amritinder Singh, Feroz Ali and Vivek Bhandari to name a few.
