With another round of Tour events in the books, this week’s highlight was at the final major of the season on the Champions Tour. The JELD-WEN Tradition in Oregon came down to a two-way, multi-hole playoff before a victor was crowned. The champion, trusting True Temper’s innovative Tour Concept Iron shafts, claimed his first victory in this, just his third event on the Champions Tour. Previously on the Champions Tour he has claimed second at the U.S. Senior Open and fifth at the Senior British Open. Overall, True Temper iron shafts were preferred by nearly an 8-1 margin over the nearest competition.
As the PGA Tour stopped in Connecticut for the Buick Championship, it seemed that home-field advantage came into play. The Champion, a native New-Englander and mainstay at this event, beat out a strong field with impressive play highlighted by a record 9-under par 61 in the final round to force a playoff. Armed with Dynamic Gold in his irons, he completed his late-tournament charge and claimed the title on the first playoff hole.
Over on the Nationwide Tour, True Temper steel continued to steamroll the competition, claiming yet another big victory. After posting solid but unspectacular opening rounds, the inaugural Cleveland Open Champion took his game to the next level and shattered the previous course record with a 9-under 62 on Saturday. This victory was his first career Nationwide Tour win, the 12th person to earn such distinction so far this year.
