More industry leaders join pellucid Outside the Ropes

Pellucid Corp., leading the charge against ignorance and indifference in the golf industry, announced that its paid subscriber base to their Outside the Ropes newsletter recently surpassed the 600 mark.

Approaching the publication’s 3rd anniversary, the fact-based and often contrarian bi-weekly e-newsletter has slowly increased its following as key industry measures have stubbornly followed the patterns suggested by Pellucid since the initial issues.

President Jim Koppenhaver, who authors the fortnightly 6-8 page newsletter, reflects on the continued growth, “Outside the Ropes has proven to be the Chinese water torture on the consciousness of key industry leaders and one-by-one they continue to join the subscriber base and add to the lively discussion on a wide range of issues.”

Combining unbiased facts and non-golf perspectives, Pellucid has tackled “elephants
sitting the corner” issues affecting the golf industry such as:

• What Can Golf Learn From Baseball?

• The Bifurcation of Golf: Rules, Equipment and Courses

• Build a Course a Day: Another perspective

• The Sky Isn’t Falling, But It’s Raining

• Golf Pricing, Airlines, Automobiles & BBQ Sauce

• Reinventing Golf: What Can We Learn From Other Sports?

• Hispanics-A Growth Challenge for Golf

In addition to the steady growth of the subscriber base, the Executive Summary of Outside the Ropes now reaches over 3,000 industry leaders and followers from which the majority of new subscriber growth comes. Those not yet plugged into the thought-provoking discussion and spirited debate can register at Pellucid’s website (www.pellucidcorp.com) for a sample issue and to receive the Executive Summaries for free.

For those wanting the full immersion, visitors to the website can also subscribe online. In addition to 24 issues/yr delivered to their inbox on a bi-weekly basis, subscribers also receive a user name and password providing access to the archive of historical issues (70 and counting) via the website.

As a special incentive to help more of their Executive Summary readers get off the fence, Pellucid is offering a pre-price increase rate of $95/yr (new price announced this week on website relaunch is $125/yr) for new subscribers before 9/15/05. To get this special offer, interested subscribers need to contact Jim Koppenhaver at jimk@pellucidcorp.com to request their subscription.

Koppenhaver reflects on the challenge of producing 24 issues a year for three years running, “When we launched OTR my producer asked how we were going to come up with 24 topics and relevant discussions. As it turns out, the industry continues to provide more topics than we can realistically cover with only 24 issues. The challenge quite frankly has been trying to provide reality-based perspectives and potential solutions rather than simply lamenting the current industry contraction.”

There’s always room for more independent thinkers. The expansion to the next 600 subscribers will be marked by the progression noted by Max Planck: “An important scientific innovation rarely makes its way by gradually winning over and converting its opponents: What does happen is that the opponents gradually die out.”
