Mizuno introduces the MP-60 Cut Muscle Cavity Iron

NORCROSS, Ga. -- Mizuno, the forging and technology leader in golf, has introduced the new MP-60 forged iron featuring revolutionary Cut Muscle Cavity design technology. Building on the award winning success of the MP-32 with Cut Muscle design, named “Editors’ Choice” in Golf Digest’s 2005 Hot List and “Testers’ Top Pick” in GOLF Magazine’s Club Test 2005, the Mizuno product development team evolved this game changing technology in the MP-60 to now include a cavity for forgiveness.

The Grain Flow Forged MP-60 is 4% larger and has a 10% larger sweet area when compared to its outstanding Cut Muscle counterpart the MP-32. Utilizing patented Grain Flow Forging technology and the breakthrough Cut Muscle Cavity design, Mizuno engineers were able to strategically position weight in specific areas of each club to create a flighted sweet spot location, and a precisely placed center of gravity, while maintaining the maximum amount of solid feel with added forgiveness throughout the set. The result is an iron that delivers an extremely consistent and predictable ball flight, with a slightly higher trajectory in the long irons than the MP-32, and a mid trajectory, similar to that of the MP-32s, in the scoring irons.

“The enormous benefits of Cut Muscle Design Technology can now be experienced by a much larger range of golfers with the addition of the MP-60 Cut Muscle Cavity back to the award-winning MP-32,” said Dick Lyons, Vice President and General Manager, Mizuno USA Golf Division. “The MP-60, with its flighted sweet spot location, controllable ball flight, and the added forgiveness of a cavity allow players to execute aggressive shot making on a more consistent basis. The MP-60 will give golfers more control over their game by providing the perfect combination of forgiveness and workability”.

Other features of the new MP-60 include a rolled leading edge, cambered mid-sole, and rolled trailing edge to deliver consistent striking ability from all types of lies, modified U-grooves produce the ideal spin rate for maximum playability in all conditions, and a durable double nickel chrome plated finish for a player preferred look.

“It only makes sense that Mizuno, with our heritage of craftsmanship and innovation in golf, would not only deliver game changing Cut Muscle technology, but also take it to the next level with the new MP-60 Cut Muscle Cavity, the next generation of game enhancement design technology,” said Lyons. “The Cut Muscle Cavity, much like the original Cut Muscle design, is only made possible by our patented Grain Flow Forging process which produces the longest, tightest, most uniform grain structure. That allows us to strategically move weight around the club head that simply wouldn’t be possible with other forging processes.”

The MP-60 will be offered in right and left handed models (S300 only) with True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 and R300 steel shafts and Golf Pride Tour Velvet 58 Round Grips standard. The suggested retail price for a set of MP-60 irons is $1,200.00 (3-PW). Other shafts and grips as well as flat or upright lies are available through Mizuno’s Custom Club department. The MP-60 is also available with a two iron in right hand only. Mizuno will begin shipping the MP-60 irons to accounts in September. Left-handed will be available March 1, 2005.
