F1 driver Eddie Jordan to caddy for Paul McGinley at BMW Open

NORD-EICHENRIED, Germany -- Now that Eddie Jordan has sold his Formula One racing team, he's convinced golfer and friend Paul McGinley to fulfil an old wish.

Jordan will caddy for the two-time Ryder Cup player at the BMW International Open, which starts Today.

"We have been friends for 15, 20 years and he has been on and on about caddying for me and it has never worked out," McGinley said. "When he finally sold his company, he became unemployed and I said I would employ him for a week."

Jordan sold his racing team to Toronto businessman Alex Shnaider in January for 37.5 million euros ($55 million US) and doesn't plan on taking the caddy's usual 10 per cent if McGinley wins for the fourth time on the European tour.

McGinley's tie for third at last week's NEC Invitational allowed him to hire his fellow Irishman as it meant he had sealed a spot in both the Masters and World Match Play.

Asked what advice he had sought from other caddies, Jordan, who has a 12 handicap, replied: "Only on the consumption of alcohol, the girls, the rooms - and it all sounds very familiar to what I have been doing for 35 years."

For a top-10 placing, Jordan would be entitled to five per cent from McGinley.

"I think we might spend it on a holiday together," Jordan said. "If Paul came and changed the front wheels of an F1 car I can't imagine seeing an invoice from him."

Jordan, who replaces regular caddy Darren Reynolds for the week, will be offering McGinley something extra.

"Anyone can do yardages and more or less pull a club," McGinley said. "It is friendship I need more than anything else when things aren't going your way. You need someone you can count on."
