SUNSET BEACH, N.C. -- Ocean Ridge Plantation will host the 2005 Carolinas PGA Seniors' Championship starting today and ending tommorow. The event will be sponsored by Coastal Communities, Inc. of Holden Beach, N.C., owners and developers of several planned communities in Brunswick County including Ocean Ridge Plantation, Rivers Edge Golf Club & Plantation and Seawatch at Sunset Harbor.
Approximately 250 players will participate in the two-day, 36-hole event, which will be played on Ocean Ridge Plantation's award winning Panther's Run Golf Links and Tiger’s Eye Golf Links.
"We are honored to be hosting this prestigious event again this year," said Philippe Bureau, Ocean Ridge's Director of Golf. "Panther’s Run and Tiger’s Eye are both challenging and beautiful. Together, they make a great stage for the seniors to perform upon.”
The field for the Carolinas PGA Seniors' Championship is comprised of professionals and amateurs. The professionals will compete for prize money and a crystal trophy.
Since its opening in 2000, Tiger’s Eye has received accolades from every major golf magazine including Golf Digest’s “America’s Top 100 Public Golf Courses” and receiving 4 1/2 stars in Golf Digest “Places To Play.” The course is more than 7,000 yards long and features three unique ecosystems not usually found together: Carolina Bays and marshland typical of a coastal environment; mature, dense hardwood forest land; and longleaf pine groves and elevation changes reminiscent of the sand hills area of North Carolina.
Panther’s Run was named one of the “Top 100 Fairways” by Golf For Women Magazine and is home to one of America’s All Time Best Golf Shops according to Golf World Business magazine. Panther’s Run measures 7,089 yards from the back tees; 6,706 yards from the blue tees; 6,267 yards from the white tees; and two forward tees measure 5,546 yards and 5,023 yards.
