KIGALI CITY, Rwanda -- Bank of Commerce, Development and Investment (BCDI) will offer more sponsorship to golf, Zack Umukala, the bank's vice president has said.
The bank's first ever sponsored golf event which was played last Saturday at the Mountain Resort Golf course fell short of success not highly attended as expected.
Since it was the first time to engage in golf sponsorship, the bank expected a high number of participants. It came as a shock that only half of the expected number.
The low turn up was mainly attributed to the short notice given and the fact that most of the expatriates working locally are currently back to their native countries on holiday.
This compelled Umukala who represented the bank at the prize giving ceremony to promise a much more organised event annually.
He admitted the blame for the short notice but he immediately pledged to make the event annual. He said, "We (BCDI) are privileged to be associated with golf and despite that the fact that the turn out was low, we want to come back with a much more organised event."
"This is out first time to sponsor golf in the country and though it has not been as successful as anticipated, let me assure you that from now on, BCDI will come back with something bigger and more organized annually," he revealed.
The event attracted close to 20 golfers with four coming from neighbouring Uganda led by the president of the Kabale Golf Club, Mr Herbert Tugumane.
