NEW DELHI - Oct.12 - Mukesh Kumar got his revenge of sorts from Order of Merit leader Ashok Kumar, when his team won the pro-am event of the HT Pro Golf 2004 in Gurgaon, near New Delhi, as the latter had won the main event.
The pro-am was the perfect conclusion to the main tournament and saw the country’s leading professionals team up with top corporate honchos fight it out for glory. Mukesh, who fired a three-under 69, led his team of Nikhil Dhodapkar, G Ravindran and Moni Bhalla to victory.
Close on the wining team’s heels was the trio of amateurs Wg Cdr Aparajit, Navnit Singh and Arjun Mondayil along with professional Vishal Singh whose card read four-under 68 finishing second, while winner of the main tournament Ashok Kumar carded a 67 and together with his teammates Atul Malhotra, Prabhat Singh and Ranjan Bhattacharya finished third.
The event was played on a medal round format wherein the professional’s score was compulsory while the amateurs played on a scramble format with a 10 per cent allowance on the average of their combined handicap.
Besides the main event, there was a host of other exciting prizes as well. The ‘Best Individual Pro Score’ award was split as three professionals – Ashok Kumar, Digvijay Singh and Rafiq Ali – returned cards of five-under 67, each receiving Rs.1666. Prabhat Singh won the ‘Closest to the pin’ contest while Sanjay Suri bagged the ‘longest drive’ award. The monster putt prize was won by Dr Rashid Juma.
