ITASCA, IL. -- The Zero Friction Golf Tee continued to show its metal on the major men's professional golf tours as the winner of the Nationwide Tour event and the runner-up of the PGA Tour stop both used the revolutionary tee to attain success.
On the Nationwide Tour, the winner used the Zero Friction to capture his third straight tournament, the Cox Classic Presented by Chevrolet, and earn an automatic exemption onto the PGA Tour. In attaining his accomplishment, the winner shot a second-round 59 and a final-round 63 to gain his promotion to the Big Show. The victor averaged a whopping 340.5 yards to finish second for the week in driving distance and hit more than 83 percent in greens in regulation to finish tied for third in that category.
The Zero Friction Golf Tee also had a tie for 12th in the Cox Classic.
Zero Friction continued its run of success on the PGA Tour at The International, where the runner-up led a strong contingent of top finishers using the Zero Friction tee. He was one of three Zero Friction users to finish in the top-10, including a fourth and a tie for sixth. The runner-up used the new Zero Friction hardwood tee which, like the original, has less surface area coming in contact with the golf ball, but without the current 3-pronged design. The Hardwood is currently available on Tour only but will be available at retail beginning October 1.
Two other players teeing it up with the Zero Friction finished tied for 12th and tied for 15th, giving the tee five top-15 finishes at The International. In all, 23 of the 31 players using the Zero Friction Golf Tee in the tournament made the cut.
"We are proud that the Cox Classic winner can attribute a key part of his success to the Zero Friction Golf Tee, and we salute his earning an automatic promotion to the PGA Tour," says Mike Herron, Business Development Manager for Excel Golf Tee, Inc., the parent company of Zero Friction. "We wish him nothing but the best. He has quickly become one of the most popular players in golf, and the Zero Friction Golf Tee has quickly become one of the most popular products in golf.
"Overall, it was another great week for Zero Friction," adds Herron. "Our high finishes and outstanding performances continue to mount. That should tell golfers that the Zero Friction is the golf tee they should be using."
Since being introduced to the PGA Tour in the beginning of May, Zero Friction users have recorded three wins and 27 top-10's. On the Nationwide Tour that total has reached three victories, a second and six top-10's.
The Zero Friction tee provides less resistance between the golf ball and the golf tee for longer, straighter drives. Its reduced spin rate fights dispersion, thereby keeping the ball on line and in the fairway. Performance is also aided by aligning one of Zero Friction's three prongs on top of the tee to the target. Since the club only comes in contact with two of the prongs, added extra distance is created.
