Tournament Course at Redstone Golf Club now open for public play

HOUSTON -- The new Tournament Course at Redstone Golf Club, designed especially to host the Shell Houston Open PGA TOUR event, is now open for public play.

Crafted by renowned golf course architect Rees Jones, the heavily wooded 7,422-yard, par-72 layout is a daily fee course located adjacent to the Member Course at Redstone Golf Club, which has hosted Houston's TOUR event since 2003 while the new course was being constructed. Redstone Golf Club is located in northeast Houston, minutes from George Bush Intercontinental Airport, at 5860 Wilson Road near the Sam Houston Tollway and U.S. Highway 59.

The Tournament Course will be free of real estate development according to the contractual agreement between the Houston Golf Association (HGA) and Redstone Golf Management. "Redstone continues to deliver on its promises to make the site of the Shell Houston Open an exceptional venue," says Steve Timms, Executive Director of the Houston Golf Association, which operates the tournament. "Since we signed the contract in 2002, Redstone has continually shown its commitment to be the best. The 50 acres of on-site sponsor parking, plus the three-hole course for The First Tee ® of Houston/Redstone emphasizes why the Houston Golf Association relishes its partnership with The Redstone Companies."

PGA TOUR player David Toms consulted with Jones on the project.

"Normally a tour player is not as involved in the design process, but I have had a lot of access and input," says Toms. "The course is challenging, but fair. There is a lot of variety so that not one type of player has an advantage, which is what we need on the tour now."

With multiple sets of tees on each hole, the course can play anywhere from 7,422 yards to 5,371 yards from the forward tees. Green fees are $125, which includes cart, range balls and a forecaddie with each group. Tee times are available at 281-459-7820.
