NBC Sports Celebrity Golf Getaway scheduled for this fall in Vegas

NEW YORK, NY, August 15, 2005 -- The NBC Sports Celebrity Golf Getaway – featuring John Elway, Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens -- is scheduled for this fall in Las Vegas. It will be hosted by Caesars Palace with exclusive tee times reserved at three of the resort city’s most prestigious golf courses: Cascata, Bali Hai and Royal Links.

The four-day, three-night experience includes luxury accommodations at Caesars Palace over three periods: October 24-27, November 7-10 and November 14-17. Each session is limited to six groups of four with six celebrities on hand for all activities. In addition to the golf and dining, participants will travel in limousines and take part in an array of upscale-type events, including nightly receptions, cigar and scotch tasting, reserve wine tasting and Las Vegas shows. The experience is designed to provide diversity and flexibility for male and female golfers of all skill levels and for vacationers of varied leisure-time interests.

“There are private outings with celebrities and golf vacations, but this combination of prominence, upscale luxury and service is unique, said Gary Quinn, Director of Business Development for NBC Sports. “We’ve learned through ownership of our own golf properties and our valued relationships with the PGA Tour and the USGA that golf is a full-fledged lifestyle for those who are passionate about the game. The ‘Getaway’ is the experience of a lifetime.”

The package includes a round of golf on each of four days, using all three courses. One celebrity will play with each group on a rotating basis each day. Instruction by renowned author and golf teacher Jim Flick -- named one of the top 10 teachers of the century by Golf World magazine -- is part of the golf experience.

The three fall offerings are limited to 18 foursomes (six per session) at a cost of $60,000 per group. Information about the NBC Sports Golf Getaway can be obtained at nbcgolfgetaway.com and by calling (415) 777-8213.

Elway, the 1999 Denver Broncos Super Bowl MVP quarterback; Johnson, the future Hall of Famer and New York Yankees ace pitcher; and Clemens, the future Hall of Famer and Houston Astros ace pitcher, will all be part of the experience. Other participating celebrities include: Hall of Famers George Brett, Marcus Allen, Carlton Fisk and Gary Carter plus Chicago Bears Super Bowl-winning quarterback Jim McMahon, 1980 U.S. Olympic Gold Medal-winning Hockey Team captain Mike Eruzione and actors John O’Hurley (Seinfeld) and Dennis Haysbert (24).

“NBC’s relationships in golf and in sports entertainment through our successful celebrity golf model enable us to create this unique combination of benefits,” continued Quinn. NBC owns the 15 year-old American Century Championship, celebrity golf’s premiere event televised by the network each July from Lake Tahoe, NV, and the 13 year-old ADT Golf Skills Challenge, the situational shot-making competition among top tour players which airs every December on the last weekend of the year.

“The celebrities we’ve selected possess a great combination of attributes. They are low handicappers with terrific personalities who understand hospitality and are comfortable in this kind of atmosphere,” Quinn concluded.

NBC Sports Celebrity Golf Getaway is presented by Caesars Palace and sponsored by TravelWizard.com, Taylor Made, Fairway & Greene, Golf.com, Bali Hai Golf Club, Royal Links Golf Club and Cascata. On-site logistics are handled by Perfect World Events, a boutique Destination Management Company based in San Francisco.
