United Warrior Survivor Foundation invites golfers to play the Stars In Stripes charity event

CORONADO, Calif. -- GolfGym, the industry leader in golf fitness has announced that it is participating in the United Warrior Survivor Foundation (UWSF) Stars in Stripes Charity Golf Tournament at Sea N’ Air Golf Course in Coronado, CA on Friday, August 12th, 2005. The UWSF is a non-profit organization committed to the spouses surviving Special Operations personnel killed in the line of duty. Player spots are still available.

“We are committed to honoring the memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country,” said Nicholas Rocha, UWSF President and former U.S. Navy Seal. “This event provides the perfect opportunity for golfers to play a military course alongside our brave men and women in uniform and raise money for the loved ones of those killed in the line of duty.”

The Stars in Stripes Charity Golf Tournament kicks off with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. with a team best ball scramble format. Golfers can sign up as a part of a foursome or as a single player. Check-in takes place at 11:00 a.m. at Sea N’ Air Golf Course at Naval Air Station North Island. The entry fee is $150 ($75 for Active Military), and includes the Tournament Fee, Golf Cart, Range Balls, and Banquet Dinner and Awards Ceremony with guest speaker Captain Bill Pflugrath USN, representing the Special Operations community. There will also be 25 – 30 surviving spouses from each branch of service as honored guests.

“We still have openings for players, sponsors and donations, and encourage people to come out and help us raise money for the wives and children of the Special Operations men killed in action,” added Rocha. “This is a great opportunity to thank those men and women who serve our country and to help give something back to those who gave all.”

In addition to the golf tournament, UWSF is hosting a Block Party on Saturday, August 13 on Coronado Island, CA next to the famous McP’s Irish Bar. From 12 noon to 10:00 p.m., C Ave and Orange Ave. come alive with great food, drinks, kids section and live music along with an array of military personnel and their vehicles. During the party, 25 – 30 surviving spouses will be honored publicly by the mayor of Coronado. Entrance to this event is free.

The UWSF is a non-profit tax exempt corporation dedicated to the surviving spouses of Special Operations military personnel killed in the line of duty since September 11, 2001. UWSF offers educational grants along with educational counseling, financial guidance, investment planning and other programs. UWSF also provides emotional support through professional bereavement counseling and support groups throughout the United States.
