St. Andrews' Devlin course first in UK to install Inforemer wi-fi GPS

Qualifiers for this year's International Pairs UK grand final will be better prepared than ever to win the national title thanks to a new addition at St Andrews Bay Golf Resort & Spa.

The resort's Devlin course is the first UK golf course to install the Inforemer wi-fi GPS system.

During practice rounds competitors will be able to use the screens, giving the exact distance to water hazards and bunkers, as well as the front, back and centre of greens, attached to buggies giving them the best chance possible of excelling on the challenging course.

Graeme Dawson, director of business development for the International Pairs, said: "We're delighted that our finalists will be able to take advantage of this fantastic technology.

"Obviously it can't be used in the final itself, but using it in practice rounds will ensure competitors are fully prepared for the challenge ahead of them.

"The addition of this equipment is just another example of St Andrews Bay's focus on customer service. It is yet another unique facility the resort has to offer and reaffirms our decision to make it the home of the International Pairs."

Now in its seventh year, the International Pairs is the largest club competition of its kind in the world and is attracting support from throughout the golfing world - new partners of the tournament include the London Golf Show and the Leaderboard Group, owners of top quality golf courses including Chart Hills in Kent, home of the Ladies' English Open.

This is not surprising with as many as 20,000 club golfers across the UK competing this year alone - and every participant is entitled to a free Hippo lob wedge. The special Hippo 60° lob wedge, worth £39.95, is subject simply to a £9.99 postage and packaging charge.

The International Pairs is also easy to enter.

All it costs is £5 to participate - £10 per pair - unchanged for the fifth successive year.

Golf clubs host a qualifying event and the winning pair from each club travels to Scotland for a semi-final on a championship golf course, which includes complimentary accommodation and golf, with an invitation to a special Scottish-themed welcome reception.

Pairs who make the cut from the semi-finals stay on in Scotland for two more days to experience the golfing event of the year at the luxurious St Andrews Bay Golf Resort & Spa with two nights' accommodation, two rounds of complimentary competition golf - one on each of the Torrance and Devlin courses - the championship gala dinner, and the chance to win the coveted International Pairs title and progress to the 2006 world final, representing their country.

On top of all that, competitors are also entitled to take advantage of myriad special offers from the event's sponsors and partners - not a bad return for a £5 investment.
