PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Newly-crowned British Open Champion Tiger Woods, whose victory last weekend at the Old Course at St. Andrews gave him his second major Championship of the year and 10th in his career, has opened the door for an alternate to join golf's elite foursome in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
The 2005 PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which brings together the winners of the year's four major Championships, will be played Nov. 22-23, 2005, at Poipu Bay Golf Course & Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa in Kauai, Hawaii.
TNT will broadcast The PGA Grand Slam of Golf, Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. EST, and Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. EST.
Woods will be joined by U.S. Open Champion Michael Campbell in the 23rd PGA Grand Slam of Golf. The remaining berths in the elite foursome will be determined following the 87th PGA Championship, Aug. 11-14, 2005, at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J. The top alternate, based on a list of active former major Champions, will receive an invitation.
Woods, who won the Masters in April, captured his second career British Open Championship - both coming at St. Andrews, Scotland. He joined Jack Nicklaus as the only players in history to win a second career Grand Slam.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf is televised to some 88.9 million U.S. homes by TNT Network and to more than 100 countries worldwide. The PGA Grand Slam of Golf is a two-day, 36-hole event, featuring a total purse of $1 million and a Champion's first prize of $400,000.
