ATLANTA -- Srixon Sports, a world leader in golf ball and golf club technology, has announced an addition to its urethane performance technology family: the Srixon Z-URS. The same technology platform on which the tour winning Z-UR is based serves as the foundation for the new Z-URS. With its first win in 2005 on the PGA Tour (Tim Petrovic at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans), and two other wins world wide earlier this year, the new Z-URS has been engineered to be the longest softest golf ball that only Srixon, a pioneer in advanced golf ball technology, could create.
The Z-URS shares several proprietary Srixon technology features with the Z-UR. They both have the world's thinnest cover - made from membrane-thin, shear resistant urethane-elastomer measuring an astounding 0.02-inch thin. The same resilience enhancing proprietary bis(PentaBromophenyl) DiSulfide or PBDS is added to the core of the Z-URS for greater velocity. And the same 330 dimple pattern provides high trajectory with a penetrating ball flight for stability in all cross winds and head winds.
The main difference between the Z-URS and the Z-UR is in the core compression. The new Z-URS features a compression that is approximately 10% lower than that of the Z-UR. This gives those players who prefer it, a softer feel and sound with their irons and on the greens.
"We've now given our players and consumers a choice," said Richard Stamper, Srixon's President. "Players love the performance of the Z-UR and their results on tour this year are certainly a testament to that. But some players prefer a softer feel whereas others prefer a more solid feel. With the incredible new Z-URS, our engineers have been able to accomplish an amazing feat—engineer a ball that has a softer feel without sacrificing distance or playability. The Z-URS is constructed with the same advanced technology as the Z-UR, but now Srixon is able to cater to those golfers who truly require a golf ball that goes the distance but with more feel with each shot. It gives Srixon quite an arsenal to be able to offer a choice like this without performance compromise," added Stamper.
In addition to Tim Petrovic, golf fans will be able to see many of Srixon's tour professionals teeing up the Z-URS, including Miguel Angel Jimenez, Robert Allenby, Tom Lehman, Brian Davis, John Huston and others.
The Z-URS will be sold exclusively in on- and off-course golf shops and carries a suggested retail price of $55 per dozen.
