Schmidt/Curley-designed Twin Creeks among Golfweek's Top 40 New Courses

CEDAR PARK, Texas -- Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley of the Scottsdale, Arizona-based firm of Schmidt-Curley Golf Design are pleased to announce that Twin Creeks Country Club has been recognized in Golfweek's "Top 40 New Courses" in its June 18, 2005 issue. Schmidt-Curley designed Twin Creeks in 2003 in conjunction with consultant Fred Couples.

The top 40 new golf courses (courses opened in 2003-2004) were selected by Golfweek's "America's Best" raters. Among the criteria used are "Ease and intimacy of routing," "Quality of feature shaping," "Natural setting and overall land plan," "Interest of greens and surrounding contours," "variety and memorability of par 3s, 4s and 5s," "Basic quality of conditioning," "Landscape and tree management" and the "Walk in the park" test.

"We're extremely pleased that our design efforts at Twin Creeks have been recognized by a publication of Golfweek's caliber," said Brian Curley, a principal in Schmidt-Curley Golf Design. "To be chosen as the 20th best new course in the U.S. is very exciting, especially amid some strong competition. However, much of the credit has to go to the land itself. It's so seldom as an architect that you're given such a gorgeous piece of property as we had at Twin Creeks. When we're presented with property that boasts so many natural attributes, we believe it's best to let those attributes shine on their own, with only subtle enhancements. In the case of Twin Creeks, it's very rewarding to have had the opportunity to work with this special site."

Adds Curley's design partner Lee Schmidt, "Playing this course is what it would feel like if you just happened upon a golf course carved out of nature. It's that pure."

Located in the heart of Texas Hill Country just northwest of Austin, Twin Creeks Country Club is the centerpiece of a new development from Crescent Resources, LLC. The 7,033-yard, par 72 private country club course winds through steep ravines and limestone rock outcroppings and features two creeks along with long views of the tree-dotted Hill Country.

In addition to Twin Creeks Country Club, Schmidt-Curley Design is currently working on or has completed projects in ten different countries, including eight of the ten courses at Mission Hills in China, the Guinness Book of World Records holder as "the World's Largest Golf Club." Among the most honored Schmidt-Curley courses in the United States are Marriott's Shadow Ridge (with Nick Faldo) in Palm Desert, Calif., Bali Hai in Las Vegas, Nev., the PGA of Southern California Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif., Southern Dunes Golf Club (with Fred Couples) in Maricopa, Ariz., Crosby National (with Fred Couples) in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. and The Palms and The Plantation (both with Fred Couples) in Indio, Calif. Another Schmidt-Curley design in Indio, Landmark Golf Club, is a four-time host to the Skins Game.
