MONTEREY, Calif. -- Imagine golfing in an idyllic, pristine setting with gorgeous weather, camaraderie mixed with celebrity, sumptuous food and beverages, and impeccable jazz drifting through the fresh afternoon air. What could possibly be more enjoyable the day before the 48th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival than the festival’s annual Golf ‘n’ Jazz Tournament?
Now in its seventh year, the MJF Golf ‘n’ Jazz Tournament offers golf and jazz aficionados the ultimate mix of leisure sport and music on Thursday, September 15, 2005, at Quail Lodge Golf Course in Carmel Valley, California. Early golf contestant registration and sponsorship opportunities are now available, and the event - which benefits the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Jazz Education Programs - promises a fun-filled affair for all.
The Quail Lodge Golf Resort offers the best of California golf with a pastoral, tree-lined par-71 course resting like a jewel in a mountainside setting, with ten sparkling lakes and lush fairways meandering along the Carmel River. With a quartet scramble tee-off beginning at 1:00 pm, Golf 'n' Jazz contestants play for awards and prizes while mingling with fellow golfers and jazz celebrities who will perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival presented by MCI, September 16-18. Saxophone virtuoso Branford Marsalis will spend his time tee-ing up with fellow golfers rather than tuning up, and other noteworthy jazz artists will perform throughout the day on the course. Participants also take advantage of rehearsal balls on the range, golf carts, boxed lunches, wine and beer on the course, gift bags, and mulligans available for purchase for the “par-challenged.”
The MJF Golf ‘n’ Jazz Tournament concludes with a private pre-festival BBQ Dinner, Concert and Golf Awards Ceremony. A host of prizes for contestants includes a Yamaha Disklavier piano as one of the hole-in-one prizes.
The Monterey Jazz Festival Golf ‘n’ Jazz Tournament registration began on August 1st at $275 per contestant. Registration includes the BBQ dinner, with one dinner reservation per contestant for an additional guest available for $25.
Enthusiastic participants are also encouraged to explore a variety of sponsorship opportunities for this unique event. Sponsorship packages range from $250 to $10,000 and may include Monterey Jazz Festival full weekend premium Arena Seats and Grounds Passes, Parking Passes, MJF Private Artist Bar Passes, Golf ‘n’ Jazz Tournament and BBQ participation, and prominent placement of sponsor banner, logo and designation in high-visibility locale.
Proceeds from the Golf ‘n’ Jazz Tournament benefit the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Jazz Educational Programs, which change the lives of thousands of students through music education. The Traveling Clinicians Program, Monterey Summer Jazz Camp, Next Generation Festival and other outreach projects provided by the Monterey Jazz Festival are made possible every year due to generous donor support.
