Kevin Drum the right man for the job promoting Mississippi golf

The Rebel has been inhaling too much of his own cigar smoke again. In a recent blog, he blasts Mississippi Golf Coast PR man Kevin Drum for...caring too much.

Drum is a good man and a good PR guy. He set up an excellent itinerary for me when I visited the Biloxi area several months ago. His research was thorough and he knows a great deal about the golf history in the area. The trip went off without a hitch, and was better organized than most. He and his staff went out of their way to make sure they could do as much for me as possible -- even lending me their own personal office.

Is he a little overly sensitive about what is written about Biloxi? Yes. But, isn't that what PR people are supposed to be? They are hired to present their clients in a good light, and Drum certainly tries to do that. True, he's a little overzealous at times, but that doesn't mean the Biloxi people should be looking for someone else.

I enjoyed Biloxi area golf -- there are some very good courses there, the beaches are beautiful and accessible, and the casinos are a gas. I like to think I wrote some objective stories about the area, and I think my positive thoughts came through. Drum probably needs to lighten up a tad -- especially when it comes to blogs, inherently subjective and informal - but I don't think Mississippi could have a better person in that position.
