Leech leads at Jack Newton International Junior Classic

WELLINGTON – Oct. 8, 2004 – Aaron Leech fired a sizzling 8 birdies on his way to a 4 under par 68 in the second round of the Jack Newton International Junior Classic at The Oaks Golf and Country Club, Cessnock, New South Wales.

After a disappointing opening round of 78, Leech took full advantage of the fine weather to post the 4 under scorecard, which also included a double bogey and two bogeys. This brought Leech up to equal fourth position in the 16 years age group with fellow Kiwi Jae An (BOP) who carded an even par round of 72 to add to his opening round of 74.

The other two Kiwi representatives, Samuel Shin (North Harbour) and Perry Hayman (Wellington) also experienced vastly different results from their opening rounds. Shin had produced an excellent round of 71 in trying conditions on the first day but followed this with a 9 over par 81. Hayman, like his Wellington team mate brought himself back into the tournament by scoring a 1 over par 73 which was a 9 shot improvement on his opening round.

Leech and An now tie for 6th place in the overall event, with Shin dropping back to 3rd place in the 14 years age group. The 72-hole championship concludes on Friday 8 October.
