BILOXI, Miss. -- "We are very fortunate that Hurricane Dennis hit two states away," says Kevin Drum, Executive Director of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Golf Association. "Of our 16 member courses, 14 opened this morning, and the others will open tomorrow.," says Drum.
Golf travelers can be assured that the area's rooms and golf courses are ready for visitors and that Dennis made no significant impact on Mississippi's Gulf Coast. The area is protected by offshore barrier islands, unlike neighboring destinations, and this sometimes helps protect it from major storms. But, because nothing is certain, precautions were taken to close courses Sunday in preparation for Hurricane Dennis.
"It is unfortunate, but even when a hurricane causes no damage it causes lost revenue," says Kevin Drum. "And the economic impact can be made much worse if potential customers think there is damage when there isn't. That is why we want to immediately tell all potential golf visitors it's a beautiful day on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, so grab your clubs and some friends and come on down to enjoy great golf, 26 miles of coastline, 14 casinos and great seafood," says Drum.
