They are the only clubmaker certifications that combine written and hands-on skill exams.
The objectives of the one-day Clubmaking and Repair Skills Training School are to familiarize attendees with state-of-the-art clubmaking and repair skills techniques and to relate those techniques to improved customer service. The process will help PGA apprentices assemble their Level 1 Golf Club Design and Repair Self-Study Manual. The school also will cover how to apply selected golf club specification to complement various swing characteristics noted in teaching/fitting sessions.
The course will review the latest club-repair techniques, the fitting process, innovations in shaft and grip technology, shaft frequency and flex determination, spine-alignment techniques, shop repair flow, and special repairs to the latest OEM drivers such as Ping, Callaway, TaylorMade and Titleist. Each attendee will learn to adjust the loft and lie of irons and putters, using their own clubs for hands-on adjustments. One attendee will re-shaft a driver with a premium-grade graphite shaft such as Aldila or UST. Each attendee should bring a driver and putter to use in the demonstrations. Each attendee will receive a certificate of achievement following completion of the school.
Joachim Lange (502/459-1609) and Jason Elbert (502/633-7332) are current PGA apprentices who may be contacted as references for the PCS one-day Clubmaking and Repair Skills Training School.

The next PCS Advanced Fitting Schools are scheduled for the PCS Headquarters, located next to Persimmon Ridge Golf Course, Louisville, Ky., Oct. 3-5 and Dec. 7-9, 2005.
