SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS -- Long Drivers of America (LDA) has announced an agreement with ESPN that will extend international broadcast coverage of LDA's flagship golf event, the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.
EPSN will distribute a 90-minute highlights package from the 2005 RE/MAX world finals, which take place in Mesquite, Nevada on October 18-22, to international affiliates on four continents.
Over the past decade, ESPN and ESPN2 telecasts of the premier event in power golf have become a staple of holiday season viewing. Through ESPN's distribution channels, the 2005 RE/MAX WLDC highlights program will air in the following markets:
- ESPN Latin America (Mexico, Caribbean, Central America, South America);
- ESPN Atlantic (Sub-Saharan Africa and Israel);
- ESPN North Africa and the Middle East;
- ESPN Pacific Rim (Australia, New Zealand);
- TSN Canada;
- Pacific Islands Sports-I (Japan).
In all, viewers in a total of 30 nations globally will get to watch golf's biggest hitters battle for world bragging rights at The Palms GC in scenic Mesquite.
International Cast
In addition to increased global TV coverage via ESPN, the 2005 RE/MAX world finals will feature increased global participation in the 128-hitter open division field.
Making their debut in Mesquite will be open division champions from China and the Middle East. The Middle East champion must first win a nine-nation showdown between long drivers representing Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
The international contingent will also include champions from Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the Caribbean, while Europe will send to the United States the top five finishers at the RE/MAX European Long Drive Championships.
