SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS -- Long Drivers of America (LDA) has announced that Honda has sweetened the pot for the 2005 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, the premier event in power golf.
Champions in the open, senior and women's divisions of the 2005 RE/MAX WLDC, which takes place October 18-22 in Mesquite, Nevada, will be granted one additional drive, courtesy of Honda, to try and exceed their title-winning effort.
Should they do so, Honda officials will hand the 2005 RE/MAX world champions keys to a new car.
The open division champion will take one extra swing to try to win a Honda Ridgeline truck. The senior division champion will swing to win a Honda Accord Hybrid sedan, while the women's division champion gets a additional attempt to win a Honda Pilot SUV.
"Honda's innovative idea will put an exclamation point on RE/MAX championship week in Mesquite," said Art Sellinger, chief executive officer at LDA, which manages and produces the international grass roots competition.
"One ball, one swing and one chance to win a new Honda. If our new RE/MAX world champions can find another gear, so to speak, they will be leaving Mesquite with a new set of wheels. How good is that?"
"Honda is honored to be a part of one of golf's most unique events, the 2005 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship," said Tom Peyton, senior manager of advertising for Honda. "It is a perfect venue to feature some of our newest products, including the new Honda Accord Hybrid, which is capable of some long drives in its own right."
Local qualifying for the 2005 RE/MAX WLDC began in February and continues this summer at more than 300 venues across North America. Information on the competition, with is open to amateur and professional golfers alike, is available at www.longdrivers.com or by calling (888) 233-4654.
"The Honda brand is synonymous with a great driving experience, and the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship features some of the most phenomenal driving that golf fans will ever see," noted Mark Stafford, LDA's director of sales. "This promotion represents a great fit for Honda and a great platform for showcasing Honda models to a national and international TV audience."
