CARLSBAD, Calif. -- The dates are official -- Tuesday, October 25 through Sunday, October 30, 2005 -- for this year's TaylorMade Father and Son World Invitational (TFSWI), an annual tournament that attracts participants hailing from all over the globe and of all handicap levels. And, for the first time, a second tournament will be held simultaneously at the same venue: the inaugural Generation Cup (GC). Both tournaments are owned and operated by Championship Golf.
The Generation Cup is open to two-person male teams with an age difference of 15 years or more. Generation Cup participants must be at least 12 years old by October 25, 2005. As before, the Father and Son is open to two-person teams consisting of a father or stepfather teamed with his son, stepson or son-in-law. Father and Son participants must be at least 12 years old by October 25, 2005. The fields for both events will be divided into four flights according to handicap.
The teams that finish first in the amateur and net categories in both the Generation Cup and the Father and Son will each be invited to TaylorMade's Test Center, at company headquarters in Carlsbad, California, to be fit for a full set of TaylorMade golf clubs.
Both the Generation Cup and the Father and Son span three days and share the same format:
Round 1 -- two-man scramble
Round 2 -- better ball of partners
Round 3 -- better ball of partners on odd holes, aggregate score of partners on even holes
The venue for the Generation Cup and Father and Son is Vista Vallarta Golf Club in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, site of the 2002 EMC World Cup and home to two championship golf courses, one designed by Jack Nicklaus, the other by Tom Weiskopf. Located in the scenic countryside, both courses will be used for competition.
The entry fee for each participant in the Father and Son and each participant in the Generation Cup is $2,175, and includes:
Six days and five nights at the five-star Marriott Casa Magna Hotel in Puerto Vallarta (rooms are shared; single-room supplements are available for an additional $475)
Welcome gifts compliments of TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company
Wednesday includes TaylorMade golf club demos and an afternoon practice round. Hall of Fame instructor Jim Flick is scheduled to be present during the day.

Non-golfing guests of tournament participants are also welcome for a fee of $1,475, which includes all of the above with the exception of golf play (practice round, tournament and shootout).
An added perk for participants in both tournaments is the company of world-renowned instructor Jim Flick, who will patrol the practice tee daily and be present at most evening activities, dispensing lessons on both golf and life as only Jim can.
"We're extremely excited to be expanding the competition by adding the Generation Cup," says Pat Mateer, CEO for Championship Golf. "We've had many, many people tell us that they wish they could participate in the Father and Son but couldn't because either their father or their son aren't golfers. Under Generation Cup rules, those types of players can now enlist a partner and join in the fun. And without a doubt, it's fun. We've had so many fathers and sons come back year after year, because it's such a great combination of competition and camaraderie. The bonding experience is terrific, and we're pleased to open that up to more people with the Generation Cup."
