NORRISTOWN, PA (June 22, 2005) - The Montgomery County Amateur Championship, which has grown in each year of its four-year existence, is growing again. A new women's division has been added to the championship, allowing competition for all women golfers who reside in the county and carry a USGA handicap index of 15.0 or less.

For the past three years there has been a championship division and a senior division in the Montgomery County Amateur Championship. Two years ago the Amateur Handicap Division, Junior Boys and Junior Girls Divisions were added. Now the Women's Division completes the Championship Series.

"It was all part of the plan to grow the Championship gradually," explained Brian Rogers, tournament director. "With each step we come closer to our goals of providing an outstanding competitive golf experience and promoting Montgomery County for what it is - the golf capitol of Pennsylvania."

The Montgomery County Amateur Championship Series will be contested throughout the first weekend in August. The Junior Championship will be held at Brookside CC in Pottstown on Friday, August 5. The Amateur Championship will be held at Jeffersonville GC on Saturday, August 6 and at Blue Bell CC on Sunday, August 7. The Amateur Handicap Championship will be held on various courses throughout the county on August 6 and 7

The move to a women's division was welcomed with open arms.

"The better women golfers in the area have been waiting for something like this for a long time," said Terry Harbaugh, the 10-time Plymouth CC champion who was the first woman to submit her entry. "We have seen the success of the Montgomery County Amateur Championship and want to be a part of it. It is one of the most exciting tournaments of any kind in the area."
