Gary Player Design expands into South Korea

Gary Player Design has inked its first projects in South Korea, marking an expansion of its award-winning Asian portfolio. President of Gary Player Design, Scott Ferrell, was in Korea in mid May to finalize multiple golf course agreements with Busan Mutual Savings Bank and several of its shareholders. Busan Mutual Savings Bank, headquartered in the city of Busan in the southeastern part of the Korean peninsula, has built over $2 billion in assets since its establishment in 1972. The new contract with Gary Player Design marks the financial institution's first venture into the golf and leisure industry.

The first site to be developed is called Young Nam Alps Country Club. Nestled in an area known as The Alps of Korea, this mountainous location boasts breathtaking views 400 to 500 meters above sea level and is conveniently situated between Busan - South Korea's second largest city; and Ulsan - South Korea's largest industrial city. The project will include a 27-hole Gary Player Signature course, hotel and residential condominiums.

Development of the other two sites will commence within the next two years and each includes an 18-hole Gary Player Signature course. Je-Ju HaeDong Country Club will be developed on the popular Asian resort destination of JeJu Island, just off the southern tip of South Korea. The island is known for its beauty and stunning views of the majestic Mount Halla and the surrounding sea, as well as its year-round mild climate.

Finally, Blue Valley Country Club will be developed in the center of a pristine natural region within one-hour drive of Busan. The golf course will be located in the heart of HaeUnDae-Gu, a tourist destination known for its hot springs and Budhist temples. As far as the design focus is concerned, the golf course will take full advantage of the surrounding forests, mountains and sea and Player's team will employ an aggressive preservation effort throughout. At this stage plans for the project include residential facilities, but may later be developed into a family-oriented leisure resort and theme park.
