Williams, Hooter elected to Long Drive Hall of Fame

SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS -- Evan (Big Cat) Williams and Fred Hooter have been elected to the LDA Hall of Fame, Long Drivers of America (LDA) announced today.

The two long drive champions will be inducted at a ceremony on October 21 during the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship in Mesquite, Nevada.

Each garnered more than the requisite two-thirds of the ballots from a 12-member voting panel.

Williams, 57, a New Jersey native who resides in Rochester Hills, Michigan, won consecutive U.S. National Long Drive Championships in 1976-77.

Williams' winning drive in 1977, a 353-yard blast at Pebble Beach Golf Links, stayed on the books as the championship record for 18 years, until Sean (The Beast) Fister won in 1995 with 362+ yards.

Hooter, 61, a Louisiana native who resides in Auburn, Alabama, owns three RE/MAX WLDC titles. Hooter won the senior division in 1999 and super senior division in 2003 and 2004.

Hooter's winning drive of 345+ yards in 2003 is the record for the super senior division.

Both Williams and Hooter are accomplished golfers as well as power hitters, having played in PGA Tour and Senior PGA Tour events.
With the addition of Williams and Hooter, the LDA Hall of Fame has ten members.

Previous inductees include Scott DeCandia, Mike Gorton, Art Sellinger, Bobby Wilson, Sean Fister, Michael Hooper, Jason Zuback and Mike Reagan.
