Retief Goosen needs help from San Antonio Spurs' Robert Horry

I really feel bad for Retief Goosen.

When I saw him fading like a dying horse, I just started to think about
speed skater Dan Jansen, who choked and faded and fell, yet continued to get up no matter what on his way to eventual Olympic glory.

I was rooting for Retief. Beyond his stoicism, you could see him dying. You had to root for him. He's a splendid competitor and a credit to the PGA Tour. Here I was watching him, just thinking about Jansen, Greg Norman, Donovan McNabb and everyone else who has shown they were human at the most inopportune time.

On the other side of the spectrum, there is Robert Horry, a well traveled forward for the San Antonio Spurs. One minute Horry is sinking that crucial three pointer, lifting his team to the brink of another title. "Big Shot Bobby", a man who will never sniff anything near a Hall of Fame, is a big time shot maker with titles from Houston, LA and soon to be San Antonio. He no longer has the skills to be an NBA star, for he is now a role player. He doesn't command the big name; his career driving towards the twilight. But when he needs to make the big play and the big shot to lift his team to glory, he's nothing but money.

Guys like Horry must have some sort of composure under fire that others do not. I hope Retief Goosen finds that sure hand and wins a US Open. Something tells me Goosen will get up, grab himself by the bootstraps and find glory.
